Master NLP – Neuro Linguistic Programming

To master NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), you first need to understand what it is. However, this isn’t always easy. Neuro-Linguistic Programming can be very difficult to understand- even harder to apply into your own life. While there are many definitions and theories behind NLP, the basic definition will always remain the same: the understanding of the human mind to better understand yourself, others, and the world in order to achieve the success you want in life.

Whew, that’s a loaded sentence. In this article, we are going to cover some of the intricacies of NLP and hopefully help you learn enough so that you can begin using it in your own life. So sit back and get ready to learn.

Framing, Perception, and Maps of the World

If a group of people witnessed the same incident, chances are good that each one would remember it slightly different. This is because everyone interprets the world differently and absorbs information in regards to their current identity and belief patterns. This is called “perception”- and the number one rule about perception is that it is totally based on the individual and is never the same for any two people.

You see, when your brain filters information from the physical world, it only tends to project things which match up with your internal framework. This is why if you find yourself surrounded by angry or stubborn people, that you are actually angry and stubborn on the inside. Your mind is so intently focused on those emotions that it literally tricks itself into believing that other emotions (like happiness and peace) aren’t around.

A Perfect Example: Blaming

It is much, much easier to blame people, places, and circumstances for your lack of success than it is to blame the one person who is responsible- you. Most people don’t realize that when you blame someone else for your misfortune, you literally give away all of your power. If you really want to master NLP, you have to give up blaming and instead take full responsibility for the condition of your life.

We included blaming as an example because again, blaming is perception. The person blaming can easily put the fault on someone else who may believe they had nothing to do with. Both parties are right in their own reality so it really comes down to that has a stronger frame.

Using NLP to Cure Phobias

NLP is great for helping someone cope and even completely get over their phobias. In case you don’t know, phobias are fears so acute that they can literally paralyze the person experiencing them. These fears are usually irrational and caused by some kind of traumatic event which happen in that individuals life.

NLP can cure this fear by helping that person identify their fears and then associating it with something positive (also known as “anchoring”). When a person anchors a positive emotion, like happiness, with something that scares them, that thing seems to no longer have control over them.

Adapting Different Beliefs

Beliefs are what drive people to do what they do. They are usually instilled in us at a young age and remain in our lives until the day we decide to change them. For example, if you believe that money is evil, then your belief is going to project into the physical world and you’ll always be broke. Think about it: why would your mind want something if deep down it believes that it is evil for having it?

NLP helps individuals change their beliefs and instead, replace them with more positive ones. So, using the previous example, that statement could be changed to, “Money is the root of all good!” Notice the difference? The first statement had with it many negative associated emotions. The second came from an area of abundance and happiness. In terms of manifesting, positive beliefs are much more likely to come true than negative ones.
