Dear Future  Risk Taking Master of Happiness & Success

Deeply moved by a student’s suicide on campus.. It was professor Leo F. Buscaglia Ph.D. who went on to create a non-credit course titled “Love 1A,” which became the basis for the first of his 5 best selling books, titled simply LOVE. And it was he who so insightfully said:-

Leo F. Buscaglia

“To love is to risk not being loved in return. To hope is to risk pain. To try is to risk failure, but risk must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.”

And it was Zachary Scott who also said:-

“As you grow older, you’ll find the only things you regret are the things you didn’t do.”

dieing on death bed

And last but not least it was Sydney Smith the English Clergyman and Essayist who lived 1771-1845 who said:-

“Regret for the things we did can be tempered by time; it is regret for the things we did not do that is inconsolable.”

And my question to you(and me) is simple,

“Do you want to look back on your life years from now with sadness and regret because you allowed fear to stop you from taking the risks you needed to take to follow your heart?”

Let us remember again the powerful truths within Sylvester Stallone’s Inspirational Speech as Rocky Balboa to His Son…

Sylvester Stallone’s Inspirational Speech as Rocky Balboa to His Son…

“You ain’t gonna believe this, but you used to fit right here. (He gestures to the palm of his hand). I’d hold you up to say to your mother, ‘This kid’s gonna be the best kid in the world. This kid’s gonna be somebody better than anybody I ever knew.’ And you grew up good and wonderful. It was great just watchin’ you, every day was like a privilege. Then the time come for you to be your own man and take on the world, and you did.

But somewhere along the line, you changed. You stopped being you. You let people stick a finger in your face and tell you you’re no good. And when things got hard, you started lookin’ for something to blame, like a big shadow.

Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!

Now if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth! But you gotta be willing to take the hits. And not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!

I’m always gonna love you no matter what. No matter what happens. You’re my son and you’re my blood. You’re the best thing in my life. But until you start believing in yourself, you ain’t gonna have a life. Don’t forget to visit your mother.” – End quote

You see as Sylvester Stallone’s inspirational words to his Son point out… This world is going to throw everything at us to try stop us from moving forward in life… And you will either stop because of fear and discouragement as cowards do… Or you will take the hits and move forward with courage in life to claim what is rightfully yours as a Child of God’s…

So the question we need to ask ourselves is..

Are You Ready To Take A Risk In Life?

It human nature to want to feel safe and secure at all times. Let’s face it, security instils a level of comfort that makes people happy, but that may actually be coming at the expense of living life to the fullest.

If you don’t believe that sounds right, then consider the paths that the most successful people in the world have had to follow and you’ll see that they tend to contain some level of insecurity. Did you know that most self-made millionaire’s were bankrupt at least 3 times on their way to their current financial position?

Probably not; perhaps because those are risks that most of us simply aren’t willing to take, no matter how much we want financial security. It would be easy to imagine that successful people simply shirk the need to feel safe, but perhaps their idea of security is something a little different than that of the average person.

So, What Is Their Secret To Taking Risks In Life?

The answer is somewhat simple and it is that successful people are secure in themselves and the things that they can do. Those two things never waver, no matter what happens to them in the outside world. They don’t look at being broke as a major problem, but more of a nuisance that can be fixed by using their abilities.

Take A Risks In Life vs. Reward

The average person would feel very secure if they had a quarter of a million dollars in the bank, no mortgage, a stable job, and health insurance. These are all things that take time to get, by which time a large portion of your life has already ticked away.

There are ways to reach those goals much sooner, but that fast track to success usually means taking risks in life along the way. It may seem odd, but to achieve complete security in the long term, you need to risk feeling insecure in the short term. What it all really boils down to is risk vs. reward.

There are all kinds of things that could go wrong if you start your own business. You might end up losing everything and be forced to sleep on a friends couch or move back in with your parents. Does that really signal the end though? Look at Sylvester Stallone as the perfect example. He was out of money and had a pregnant wife while he was shopping his script for Rocky.

At one point, Stallone even turned down an offer of $200,000 because the deal wouldn’t allow him to be the star of the film. He ended up accepting a smaller sum for the script and the rest, as they say, is history. Sylvester Stallone now has a net worth in the region of $275 million. You have to ask yourself if you would have taken that same risk in life. If your level of security comes from deep inside yourself, then you probably would have.

Inner vs. External Security

If you don’t possess that feeling of inner security, you have to learn how to make the switch from external to internal. The first thing that has to change is the way in which you look at the world. You’ll also have to learn to shrug off setbacks that might occur along the way. If you can make both of those changes, you are set.

Avoid letting the pursuit of security get in the way of fulfilling all of your goals so that you may take a few risks in life…

The time that you have on Earth is extremely limited, which means you are likely to run out of it if you sit around and wait for all of your security needs to be met. Take the time to question whether all of those external security needs are actually necessary and then get out there and go after security that is real. Security that comes when you take risks in life..

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.” ~ Helen Keller
